The Killing Fields of Texas by the Guardian

The Killing Fields of Texas | Beyond the Border Pt.1.

Thousands of immigrants have died on the ranches of Brooks County, Texas.

Most of the deaths occur while migrants are trying to circumvent the US Border Patrol’s inland checkpoint and hike through rugged ranch lands.

Some ranchers are taking up arms to fight back against the influx of migrants, while others are setting up water stations and trying to save their lives. However, as temperatures rise and the humanitarian crisis continues, the deaths are at an all-time high.

The Public Purse by Stephanie Kelton

June 18, 2018

As part of the lecture series between UCL Institute for Innovation and Public Purpose (IIPP) and the British Library, Stephanie Kelton speaks on why a government budget should not be looked at in the same way as a household budget.

Drawing on her experience as the Chief Economist on the US Senate Budget Committee, Stephanie Kelton gives a beginner’s class on public deficits and what (almost) everyone is missing in the debate over the government’s budget. Is the government’s budget really just like a family budget? (Teaser: It’s not!) What is the purpose of budgeting anyway? Is it to balance spending and revenue, or is targeting a balanced budget the wrong goal altogether? Is the British government living beyond its means?

Stephanie outlines a new way of understanding deficits, debt, taxes, the relationship between the public and private sectors, and what our economy could look like. Turning the public budget into a participatory, mission-oriented endeavor is critical to restructuring public services and public investment and building the kind of economy that will deliver a cleaner, safer, more secure future for all.

Rethinking Public Value and Public Purpose in 21st Century Capitalism is a lecture series presented by UCL’s new Institute for Innovation and Public Purpose in collaboration with the British Library.

What Do You Do With Your Time? by Isabel Rimanoczy

TEDx Talks Published on Apr 8, 2016| TEDxNSU

What if we were tasked with making a difference, so that our time on this planet leaves it better than we found it? What if we were tasked with making a difference, so that our time on this planet leaves it better than we found it? This thought launched me into a new career as a Legacy Coach working with people who want to make a difference. I researched leaders who champion initiatives that have made a positive impact on the world, hoping to find ways to actively develop a new generation of responsible, purposeful leaders.

I call it the “sustainability mindset in action.” Isabel Rimanoczy’s life purpose is to develop change accelerators. Aware of the complex challenges we and our planet are facing, she works alongside those who can make a large-scale impact. Rimanoczy, Ed.D., developed the Sustainability Mindset, a concept she researched by studying business leaders who champion corporate initiatives with a positive impact on the environment and the community.

She is also the author of several books, including Big Bang Being: Developing the Sustainability Mindset, and has published over 140 articles and book chapters. Rimanoczy blogs for the Huffington Post and has just published her newest book, coedited with Keru Kassal available from Amazon. Click on book icon to order.
