Native American author, poet, actor, musician, and political activist. He was the spokesperson for the United Indians of All Tribestakeover of Alcatraz beginning in 1969, broadcasting as Radio Free Alcatraz. During most of the 1970s, he served as the chairman of the American Indian Movement, based in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Trudell (2005 Documentary)

Trudell is a 2005 documentary film about American Indian activist and poet John Trudell. The film traces Trudell's life from his childhood in Omaha, Nebraska, through his role as a leader of the American Indian Movement. It also covers his rebirth as a musician and spoken word poet after his wife died in a house fire suspected as arson. Heather Rae produced and directed the film, which took her more than a decade to complete. Trudell aired nationally in the U.S. on April 11, 2006 as part of the Independent Lens series on PBS. Interfaith Call to Inclusion and Gathering November 10 Portland

Short video on the rally called by members of an Interfaith Alliance supported by Rev. Michael Ellick and Rev. Elizabeth Simson Durant of the First Congregational United Church of Christ.
The gathering was held on November 10th at Pioneer Square in Downtown Portland.  Leaders and members from a wide variety of faith communities were called together to "stand against the legitimization and normalization of bullying, name calling, threats of deportation, building walls, and ‘privileged’ behavior that is celebrated and without consequence. We are standing for peace and seek to build bridges to make a better and more ‘beloved community."
