Community resiliency is the capability of a community to use available resources to respond to, withstand and recover from adaverse situtions. As Dr. Judith Rodin points out, "...that we as a global community have been spending billions in a paradigm that is predicated on disaster recovery and repair rather than one that is based on readiness, preparedness and prevention." Resiliency is a quality of sustainability.

What New York City Needs to Build a Resilient Future - Klaus Jacob - |
In Klaus Jacob's first video interview (filmed 6/19) after the release of the much discussed “Resilient New York” report, he talks about defining resilience, flood risk, managed retreat, intergenerational justice, and why NYC's climate plan is shortsighted. The climate projections (flood zones, sea level rise) used in the report stop at 2050, but the city's planning & construction need to consider risks beyond that date. EarthSayer Klaus Jacob |
