Mexican Teenagers Turn Trash Into Music by Juvenal Alvarez

Juvenal Alvarez collects PVC pipes, hoses, cardboard and other scraps on the streets of Guadalajara, converting them into drums, tubas and trumpets. Alvarez and five of his friends call themselves "La Recicleychon", performing for tips every weekend in front of packed crowds.

"The Green Fireman" with Neil McCabe

Using public monies to reduce carbon footprint, practice energy conservation, and raise the environmental awareness among citizens in Ireland. €9 billion is spent by the public sector on goods and services annually in Ireland! Dublin fireman Neil McCabe showed how with a little ingenuity, this money could result in environmentally friendly buildings and huge cost savings to the public sector but will local authorities and the government take notice.

Thats €100bn in spending in the next 10 years, shouldnt that money be spend on local, environmentally sound, clean products and services?   Moving to a green economy is a low carbon economy.


It would save money and create jobs, so whats stopping us.

Our trash speaks volumes by Ocean Conservancy

Our trash tells a lot about who we are, what we value and how we behave. This year, we launched a new on-the-ground research project called Trash Lab that helps us get the whole story about the trash in our ocean. Much of what we uncovered during the project is unsettling, but one thing is clear: Many people care deeply about their local beaches and the special ocean places they enjoy with their friends and family.

Sailors for the Sea

Dan Pingaro is the Executive Director of Sailors for the Sea (sailingsforthesea.org), the only ocean conservation nonprofit focused on the sailing and boating community. In this interview he Clean Regattas Programtalks about the Clean Regatta Program at the America's Cup races held this last September 2013 in San Francisco, California. 

Since July 2011, Sailors for the Sea (Newport, RI) has worked with the America's Cup Event Authority to support the vision and plan of delivering a model sustainability sporting event. In October Sailors for the Sea awarded the 34th America's Cup their highest level Clean Regattas certification!


Dan was interviewed by Ruth Ann Barrett with support from videographer, David Okimoto of EarthSayers.tv, Voices of Sustainability at the America's Cup Finals in San Francisco, September 10, 2013.
