How empowering women and girls can help stop global warming with Katharine Wilkinson

If we really want to address climate change, we need to make gender equity a reality, says writer and environmentalist Katharine Wilkinson. As part of Project Drawdown, Wilkinson has helped scour humanity's wisdom for solutions to draw down heat-trapping, climate-changing emissions: obvious things like renewable energy and sustainable diets and not so obvious ones, like the education and empowerment of women. In this informative, bold talk, she shares three key ways that equity for women and girls can help stop global warming. "Drawing down emissions depends on rising up," Wilkinson says.

Spreading Sustainability: Denmark

http://climaterealityproject.org - We know the climate crisis and our dependency on fossil fuel has created a very real threat to public health, but there are individuals, businesses, and entire communities around the globe who are taking action to solve this crisis and create a healthier future for all of us.

For example, back in 1998 the danish government set out to prove that its goal of cutting carbon emissions by 21 percent was not only possible but practical. What happened over the next 20 years is a remarkable story of a community coming together and creating far reaching change.

The most important thing you can do to fight climate change: talk about it | Katharine Hayhoe

How do you talk to someone who doesn't believe in climate change? Not by rehashing the same data and facts we've been discussing for years, says climate scientist Katharine Hayhoe. In this inspiring, pragmatic talk, Hayhoe shows how the key to having a real discussion is to connect over shared values like family, community and religion -- and to prompt people to realize that they already care about a changing climate. "We can't give in to despair," she says. "We have to go out and look for the hope we need to inspire us to act -- and that hope begins with a conversation, today."

Our Children's Trust with Victoria Barrett

May 8, 2017 Our Children’s Trust, which is suing the federal government over its climate policies on behalf of twenty-one young people. The lawsuit asks the federal government to prepare a science-based national climate recovery plan that will bring carbon dioxide to below 350 parts per million by the year 2100. And results have been encouraging: a preliminary ruling in November states that the U.S. Constitution guarantees the right to a climate system capable of sustaining human life. Victoria Barrett is one of the plaintiffs.
