Domination of and the destruction of the values of the land can be seen when our Indigenous Knowledge is ignored or not shared by all. If we do not perform ceremonies of thankfulness then those things that sustain us will be destroyed.

Pioneers Nitin Desai, Gro Harlem Brundtland, Bill Ford, Yolanda Kakabadse, Maurice Strong,  Jim MacNeill, and Achim Steiner , highlight the historic nature of the original Rio Earth Summit, while acknowledging its shortcomings. Rio+20 takes place in June 2012.

Over time NGOs have used their speed, activism and collaborative approaches to influence actors within the UN process, as well as private sector players. Peter Russell's award-winning video, based on a live audio-visual presentation in 1983. He explores the idea that the Earth is an integrated, self-regulating living organism and asks what function humanity might have for this planetary being. It suggests that we stand on the threshold of a major leap in evolution, as significant as the emergence of life itself, and the essence of this leap is inner spiritual evolution. Moreover, Peter Russell maintains that it is only through such a shift in consciousness that we will be able to manage successfully the global crisis now facing us.
