With the inauguration of President Joe Biden, America now officially has a new federal administration. A new Congress is also underway, with the final two senators swearing in yesterday. Still, we’re beginning 2021 with “a precariously balanced Congress, and a wildly unsettled politics,” as CCL’s VP for Government Affairs Danny Richter puts it in this video. Danny weighs in about what the new administration and new Congress mean for our work on climate change, and what actions you can take right now to take advantage of upcoming opportunities. “Despite the uncertainty, there is a lot of hope for big action on climate this Congress,” said Danny.

You should never give up hope when it comes to protecting and restoring our damaged planet, says lifelong environmental activist Christine Milne. Having been on the front lines of several major wins for the planet, Christine reminds all of us, and particularly young people, that there are reasons to be optimistic about the environment. As the United Nation's Decade for Ecological Restoration (2021-2030) commences, Christine shares the story of Lake Pedder. A pristine alpine lake flooded in 1972 to create a hydroelectric impoundment after the campaign to save it was lost. Fifty years later, it is a prime candidate for ecological restoration —a beacon of hope and a future success story in the making. "TEDxIdeaChallenge" Christine Milne is an environmental activist who has spent her life campaigning in the community and in politics for Nature and the planet. Former Vice President of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), former leader of the Australian Green Party and Global Greens Ambassador, Christine took up the role of Co-Convenor of the Lake Pedder Restoration Committee in the lead up the United Nations Decade of Ecological Restoration (2021-2030) to campaign for an agreement by the summer of 2021-22, to restore Lake Pedder and surrounding environs. Christine is also currently an ambassador for the Australian Invasive Species Council; Patron of the Australian Smart Energy Council; Board member of Bob Brown Foundation and The Climate Mobilization (US) and an advisory board member to the US-based Climate Accountability Institute, Solar Heads of State and The Borneo Project. Indigenous people continue to battle fortress conservation efforts that displace communities from their lands and territories and restrict access to environments in the name of conservation. Yet, Indigenous communities are the guardians and keepers of the Earth, making up just over 6 percent of the world’s population, but steward 25 percent of the Earth’s surface and 40 percent of intact ecosystems, and protect 80 percent of the planet’s remaining biodiversity. This is no coincidence, but a result of the deep relationships Indigenous Peoples hold with their territories.

Einstein once predicted that the human race would survive no more then 4 years after the extinction of bees due to their keystone role in the entire ecosystem. Hope you enjoy it.

I wanted to see how far I could take the recordings of bees into the realm of music. The bee produces about 200-230 wing flaps pr. second, which is enough to generate a nice, rich sounding buzz.  I then decided to add some more human elements to it (vocals, guitars, grooves etc) and wrapped it up by adding full symphony orchestra and choirs on it during the end.
