Greenland’s ice sheets contain enough fresh water to raise sea levels over twenty feet. While this is not an immediate threat, the latest research shows that #Greenland’sGlaciers are shrinking at seven times the rate of just a few years ago, an average of 30 million tonnes an hour. Fresh water entering the ocean from this melting has major implications for the Atlantic meridional overturning circulation , or #AMOC, which is critical to maintain global weather patterns. A new bipartisan bill, the Growing Climate Solutions Act, has been introduced in the House and Senate to help address climate change and provide farmers and foresters access to carbon sequestration credits. The House bill, H.R. 7393, is sponsored by @Congressman Don Bacon (R-NE) and Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger (D-VA) and eight other Republicans and Democrats. The Senate bill, S. 3894, is sponsored by Senator Mike Braun (R-IN), @Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI), Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC), and Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI). Black communities have a long and complicated relationship with American soil. The ongoing call to address systemic racism, patterns of abuse, violence and dispossession have brought back to the mainstream the conversation of BIPOC communities' historical connections to land.

What are the connections between this history and current "food apartheid" (food deserts)? How is the Black farming movement connected to changes in larger food systems and the growth of worker cooperatives? How are people incorporating environmental sustainability into their work? And what can we learn from both the rich history of resistance and current strategies to inform how we resource a world where all people have access to healthy, fresh and locally sourced food?
