Christof Koch is a prominent neuroscientist focused on the neural bases of consciousness. Born in 1956, he earned his Ph.D. in biophysics after studying physics and philosophy. His distinguished career includes extensive research on the brain, particularly the visual cortex, and developing theories of consciousness. He notably collaborated with Francis Crick, co-discoverer of DNA's structure.

Koch served as a professor at Caltech for decades before becoming Chief Scientist and President of the Allen Institute for Brain Science, where he led pioneering brain mapping efforts. An influential figure, he has authored several books and speaks widely, advocating for a scientifically grounded approach to understanding the mind.
