Interceptor 028 is now operational in the Philippines, targeting the 370 to 540 tonnes of plastic that flow through the Meycauayan River system into Manila Bay annually.

Collaborating with the City of Meycauayan and the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO), we aim to monitor and enhance the interceptor's performance. This deployment is the first of several planned for the Manila Bay region under our 30 Cities Program, which seeks to reduce plastic pollution from some of the world's most contaminated waterways.

Join us for a program with Oglala Lakota leader Jim Warne, co-presented by the Climate Reality Project Bay Area Chapter. Warne, an award-winning filmmaker, discusses Native American history and building relationships for climate progress.

Warne notes many Americans lack accurate Native American history knowledge, often receiving a narrow perspective despite over 550 tribes and 200 languages. He emphasizes historical inaccuracies contribute to an "ignorance by design," hindering understanding.

Environmental justice advocates, including The Climate Reality Project, emphasize the urgent needs of communities of color. Greenaction for Health and Environmental Justice's "We Can't Breathe" campaign addresses severe environmental injustice in San Francisco's Bayview Hunters Point (BVHP), a low-income community. Residents suffer high rates of asthma and cancer due to radioactive and toxic contamination at the Hunters Point Naval Shipyard Superfund site.

BVHP, one of San Francisco's lowest-lying areas, faces extreme vulnerability to rising sea levels, threatening to flood hazardous waste. Despite these risks, luxury homes are being built near, and thousands more planned for, the contaminated Shipyard Superfund Site, amidst allegations of cleanup fraud. A protest will highlight these critical concerns.

Isha Clarke, a 16-year-old Oakland activist, co-founded Youth vs. Apocalypse to protest a controversial coal terminal planned for an underserved community. Her early activism highlighted environmental racism and the critical need for environmental justice.

Now a leader, Isha and Youth vs. Apocalypse gained national attention confronting Senator Dianne Feinstein about the Green New Deal in a viral video. They continue advocating for radical climate action centered on frontline communities, organizing major events like the Bay Area Youth Climate Strike and actions at the California Democratic Convention. Isha champions a movement that amplifies the voices of youth and marginalized communities.

Heidi Kritz has dedicated nearly half her life to protecting Alaska's Bristol Bay from the proposed Pebble Mine. This copper and gold project threatens the world's largest salmon fishery, which is vital for the local economy, ecological stability, and native cultures.

Kritz has tirelessly fought the mine, organizing rallies and a letter-writing campaign that gathered over 6,000 voices. She also mobilizes new activists by working with tribal high school students. Her leadership has significantly advanced the decade-long effort to defend Bristol Bay, and she remains committed to this crucial fight.

For thousands of years, Makah Tribal fishermen like Robert Moss have relied on the waters of Washington's Neah Bay for traditional foods. Today, however, the tribe faces a significant threat from marine debris, including a massive 3,000-ton abandoned highway bridge, which jeopardizes their ancestral waters and the health of their fishing community.

In a story of resilience, Tribal leaders and organizations are collaborating to remove and recycle this decaying infrastructure and other abandoned vessels. Their efforts aim to restore the waters and ensure the continuation of traditional food sources for the Makah community.

This video features the Makah People, an Indigenous group from Washington, USA, and British Columbia, Canada. Their name means "People Generous With Food" in the Salish language. The Makah Tribe has lived in the Neah Bay area for generations and is federally recognized as the Makah Indian Tribe.

The Makah community invites you to explore their culture and history. Historically, they lived in five principal winter villages along the Pacific Ocean and the Strait of Juan de Fuca, with a population estimated between 2000-4000. Today, around 1500 Makah people reside in Neah Bay. For more information, visit the Makah Tribal Council.
