Food authority Mark Bittman explores how industrialized food production has driven global health crises and climate change. He offers a panoramic view of this history, explaining how we can rescue ourselves from modern missteps.

With over three decades in global food culture and policy, Bittman is known for his "How to Cook Everything" series and thirty-plus books, including Animal, Vegetable, Junk. A fellow at Yale and on Columbia's Mailman School of Public Health faculty, he also edits The Mark Bittman Project and has received multiple James Beard and IACP Awards.

The Global Women’s Assembly for Climate Justice: Path to COP30 and Beyond, hosted by Women’s Earth and Climate Network (WECAN) from June 23-28, 2025, convened over 125 grassroots and frontline women leaders, advocates, and policymakers from 50 countries. The assembly featured 25 panels showcasing diverse strategies for a healthy and just world.

One key panel, “Divestment Movements & Transitioning Away From Fossil Fuels,” held on June 26th, included experts such as Roishetta Sibley-Ozane, Heffa Schücking, Olivia Bisa Tirko (Chapra), Ayumi Fukakusa, and Michelle Cook (Diné). They discussed accelerating a bold, transformative path away from fossil fuels.

During 25 unique panels, speakers showcased a diverse array of visions, projects, policy frameworks, campaigns, and movement strategies with which we can accelerate a bold and transformative path to a healthy and just world.

Host Jeff Corwin travels to Alaska's Cook Inlet to assist conservationists Nicole Whittington-Evans and Suzanne Steinert in monitoring the critically endangered beluga whale population. These "great white canaries of the sea" are uniquely adapted to Arctic life, using echolocation and feeding on salmon, but their numbers have drastically declined.

The Cook Inlet beluga population has plummeted by nearly 80% since the late 1980s due to habitat degradation, climate change, and other cumulative human impacts. Conservation efforts focus on reducing these threats and balancing human and wildlife needs to ensure these iconic whales survive for future generations.
