We are calling for a National Day of Prayer this Sunday, June 6, to offer a collective prayer, and intentions, in the unique spiritual traditions that exist across the country, on behalf of the 215 Children found at the site of a residential school in Kamloops, BC, for all Children who have been hurt, the Survivors, their Families and Communities who continue to live with the impacts of the residential school system today. This effort is in response to many calls from the People, who have been turning to the Knowledge Keepers from across the country for direction and spiritual guidance, in light of the recent news. Speaking in unity as one voice, the Knowledge Keepers will be offering leadership by lifting the Sacred Pipes collectively, lighting the Sacred Fires, and praying together in one spirit, in our Original Languages that are used to make a connection to the Creator. Following in the footsteps of our ancestors, our actions always begin with the power of the Pipe. We will receive further instructions on how we can move forward in the spirit of unity, as we begin in this way. The Elders and Knowledge Keepers wish to acknowledge the little Children, who through the recent discovery of their graves, have opened a doorway for healing for all Peoples in this country – for all the Residential School Survivors, their Families and Communities, as well as for the Canadian and larger world community, through the uncovering of the dark truth that took place in recent years. It is their hope and prayer that this will allow for greater healing and a New Relationship to be formed, based on love and kindness. The Elders have emphasized that it is our Ancestral way of life, our Ceremonies, our Pipes, Drums and Rattles, our Sacred Lodges and the comfort offered by Mother Earth herself, that hold the key to healing and moving forward. These Children would have been our future leaders, our Knowledge Keepers, Grandmothers, Grandfathers, our teachers. To honour these children, we need to focus on our Children today who have been left behind, many of whom are lost and need to come home. We need to bring them back to our ceremonies and our way of life, to provide opportunities and support so they can find their identity and become the future leaders in our homeland. Anishinaabe Elder Allan White from Naotkamegwanning (Whitefish Bay) First Nation has called for a Special National Gathering of Elders and Knowledge Keepers at the Turtle Lodge in July, to hold a special ceremony to honour the children and to seek further spiritual guidance and direction to help guide us in moving forward as a country. The Elders and Knowledge Keepers work in the spirit of establishing a New Relationship, by creating a peaceful, non-confrontational non-political environment and approach, focusing on taking a moral and spiritual approach, based on the spirit of love, kindness, and unity. Further details about this ceremonial gathering will be shared once the Elders receive the guidance and direction to hold this gathering. Until the time comes when we can meet in our Sacred Lodges again, we ask that you join us this Sunday, June 6, as we lift our Pipes, light our Sacred Fires, sing our traditional Songs, smudge, offer our Sacred Tobacco, and offer prayers in our own traditions in a collective way. This film delves into themes of inclusion, identity, and hand-drawn heroes, centered on mountain biker, skier, and artist Brooklyn Bell. Unable to find a hero, Bell created Ruby J, a comic character who became her powerful role model.

Inspired by Ruby, Bell embraced the mantra to "live like her, breathe like her, be unapologetically black like her," ultimately forging her own identity through a blend of dirt, snow, art, and inclusion.

Stabilizing our climate is going to take some hard truths – and hard numbers. “If you look at 1.5 degrees, it's about 13 years,” says Stanford’s Arun Majumdar. “If you look at 2 degrees, it’s 20 years. And after that, it’s zero.” Meaning: zero time left to solve our planet’s climate problem. But there are ways to turn that zero into a plus – if we act fast enough. “We need to start thinking about carbon removal now,” says Kate Gordon of the Columbia Center on Global Energy Policy. “We can't wait for the second half of the century to start doing the research and development, and getting this to scale and figuring out the technology and stopping deforestation - because these things have got to be part of the current solution.” One way to fight back? With the power of zero: a zero emissions electric grid, zero emission transportation, zero emission buildings and zero waste manufacturing. Getting to zero in those four areas could be the climate solution – if we can all get on the same page. Later in the show: Fighting climate change isn’t cheap. Where’s the money coming from – and where is it going? Greg Dalton was joined by donors big and small for a Climate One discussion on harnessing the power of the purse in the fight against climate change. Major philanthropic organizations like Hewlett, Packard and Bloomberg are at the forefront when it comes to addressing climate change. But are their dollars going to the right places? Tate Williams of Inside Philanthropy thinks they could be doing better. “I find that even today philanthropy doesn't fund the grassroots enough; they don't fund movement building enough,” says Williams. “And then in particular, I find that they don't fund communities of color and low-income communities that have the most to lose when it comes to climate change.” In many ways, small to mid-sized foundations can be more effective on a grass-roots level. Yvette Williams MBE from Justice4Grenfell shares her moving account of what she witnessed on the night of the fire at Grenfell Tower and how after years working behind the scenes, she was motivated to become a more vocal and visible community activist. Yvette is interviewed by Ben Bailey Smith an English rapper, comedian, actor, screenwriter, radio presenter and voiceover artist, who is also known as Doc Brown. Yvette has lived in North Kensington for over 30 years. She previously worked with the Mangrove Community Association and has served tenure as a Trustee for the Tabernacle Community Centre and the Pepper Pot Club (African Caribbean Elders Centre). She is also a founding member of Operation Black Vote – a national campaign encouraging BME communities to engage in the democratic process. She has worked with a number of campaigns including those for Stephen Lawrence and Frank Critchlow. Yvette has a professional background working in education and criminal justice. Both Yvette and her daughter witnessed the fire at Grenfell Tower, after being alerted by a family friend who was evacuated from one of the walkways. Jonathan Williams is a data scientist and a researcher of human behavior focused on empathy, intelligence theory, and analytical psychology. He is the author of “A Complete Human”, which is a guide on how to integrate the unique traits that have been repressed from your childhood. Jonathan studied Mathematics & Statistics at UConn and is deeply involved in understanding the intersection of psychology and data science. He hopes to continue his research in understanding the roots of social behavior and its impact on generational myopia. During his time as a UConn student, Jonathan started and ran a vegan Italian restaurant out of his apartment.
