During Climate Week in New York City, WECAN held a virtual public event on September 26, 2024, titled “Transforming Global Economies: From Extraction to Regeneration in a Just Transition.”

Global women leaders shared insights on a Just Transition and innovative economic models, including community-led initiatives, feminist economics, Indigenous wisdom, and traditional practices of reciprocity with the Earth. This dynamic discussion highlighted a clear path to a thriving, socially just, and ecologically enriching future for all.

For three decades, the Environmental Career Worker Training Program has significantly impacted communities across the nation. Program directors, coordinators, and students reflect on its enduring legacy and the positive changes it has brought.

Syukuro Manabe delivered his Nobel Prize lecture, "Physical modelling of Earth’s climate," on Wednesday, December 8, 2021. Professor Thors Hans Hansson introduced him.

Manabe shared the 2021 Nobel Prize in Physics with Klaus Hasselmann. Their work was recognized for "physical modelling of Earth's climate, quantifying variability and reliably predicting global warming."

The prize, awarded for "groundbreaking contributions to our understanding of complex systems," also saw Giorgio Parisi receive the other half for his discoveries on disorder and fluctuations in physical systems.

Much like pandemic mitigation, combating climate change requires difficult global cooperation. The emergence of new climate-altering technologies further complicates this, raising critical questions about governance, leadership, and ethics.

The Carnegie Climate Governance Initiative (C2G) addresses these challenges. For three years, C2G has engaged global decision-makers across governments, the UN, and civil society. They advocate for effective, inclusive governance of emerging climate technologies, urging proactive risk management and transparent global monitoring before events escalate.

FRONTLINE's "The Power of Big Oil" is a three-episode docuseries investigating the fossil fuel industry's history of climate change denial and delayed action. Part One: Denial premiered April 20, 2022.

The series explores decades of missed opportunities to confront human-caused climate change, revealing what scientists, corporations, and politicians knew about its impacts.
