Global food markets are facing increasing pressure from conflict, climate extremes, economic uncertainty, and supply chain disruptions. Yet despite these shocks, global food markets often recover quickly and regain their equilibrium. But the resulting food price spikes can have severe consequences for food security, underscoring the importance of international cooperation. Sylvie Sopie N'Gbesso doubled her cocoa production in just two years, while Nicole Kambou is scaling up sustainable cocoa farming through a cooperative that gives farmers access to equipment and labour. This story showcases two complementary FAO initiatives: PROMIRE, funded by the Green Climate Fund (GCF), which supports farmers in adopting zero-deforestation cocoa agroforestry, and SCOLUR-CI, funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF), which strengthens cooperative models for sustainable cocoa production, landscape restoration and biodiversity conservation. While coffee farming supports many families, some children are still at risk of child labour due to economic challenges. FAO in partnership with the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development developed DIGICHILD, a child labour risk estimation index. Within Sermoneta, Italy's medieval walls, the ancient "trombolotto" citrus fruit is reviving forgotten local traditions and recipes. This rare yellow fruit is championed by producer Angela Concu and FAO Champion chef Cristina Bowerman, transforming it into a symbol of sustainable gastronomy.

Their collaboration, highlighted during the International Year of Women Farmers, creates new links between producers and chefs. This initiative promotes both innovation and tradition within the food supply chain, ensuring the trombolotto's unique heritage endures.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has designated six tea production areas as Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems (GIAHS). These sites are recognized for their unique landscapes, rich agricultural heritage, and traditional farming methods passed down through generations.
