As a result of a United Nations General Assembly resolution passed in December 2008, World Oceans Day is celebrated on June 8th each year. This annual event spurred the creation of a special collections around our oceans and the efforts being made in conservation ranging from pollution to habitat restoration to fishing and fisheries.
The special collection continues to grow along with Plastic in Our Oceans and 1Water, with a focus on the challenge of providing clean drinking water to the world population.

Save the oceans, feed the world! by Jackie Savitz: |
What's a marine biologist doing talking about world hunger? Well, says Jackie Savitz, fixing the world's oceans might just help to feed the planet's billion hungriest people. In an eye-opening talk, Savitz tells us what's really going on in our global fisheries right now — it's not good — and offers smart suggestions of how we can help them heal, while making more food for all. Jacqueline Savitz is the Vice President for U.S. Oceans. Jackie’s background and training in marine biology and environmental toxicology combined with two decades of policy experience provides Oceana with a combination of sound science and clear environmental vision.
