Imminent Problem of Care for Creation by Rev. John Rausch

On Laudato Si' & the Imminent Problem of Care for Creation

On Care for Our Common Home

Interview with Father John Rausch of the Glenmary Home Missioners who speaks about Pope Francis' Papal Encyclical Laudato Si: On Care for Our Common Home (2015), and the imminent problem humanity faces with "care of creation." Father John explains its not an economic or ecological problem — its a spiritual one, with great consequences for the world's poor — and more so, for all of us. We are all connected, and only through good relations and a value system that builds community and the global commons can we save the Earth.

Climate change is real, and each one of us has a stake in our common future, and so we need to engage in dialogue, and more so, change our lifestyles. Father John is a Catholic Priest and environmental steward of the US Southern Appalacia Mountain region. He has worked actively to raise awareness and to stop the dangerous practice of mountain top mining that is destroying biodiversity and communities throughout the Southeastern states of the US.

How the oceans can clean themselves by Boyan Slat

Published on Oct 24, 2012

18-year-old Boyan Slat combines environmentalism, entrepreneurism and technology to tackle global issues of sustainability. After diving in Greece, and coming across more plastic bags than fish, he wondered; "why can't we clean this up?"  His 2017 speech announcing a design breakthrough is here.

While still being on secondary school, he then decided to dedicate half a year of research to understand plastic pollution and the problems associated with cleaning it up.
This ultimately led to his passive clean-up concept, which he presented at TEDxDelft 2012.
Working to prove the feasibility of his concept, Boyan Slat currently gives lead to a team of approximately 50 people, and temporarily quit his Aerospace Engineering study to completely focus his efforts on The Ocean Cleanup.

The progress of The Ocean Cleanup can be followed here.  On Facebook and Twitter.
Boyan Slat, born 1994 in Delfit, Netherlands, is an inventor, entrepreneur and aerospace engineering student of Croatian origin. His father is an artist who currently resides in Istria County, Croatia.

Arctic Sea Ice Reaches Another Record Low (March 2017)

Published on Mar 22, 2017

On March 7, 2017, Arctic sea ice reached its annual wintertime maximum extent, according to scientists at the NASA-supported National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC) and NASA. The Arctic sea ice extent set a record low after a warm winter. Combining the Arctic and Antarctic numbers shows that the planet’s global sea ice levels on Feb. 13 were at their lowest point since satellites began to continuously measure sea ice in 1979.

Shell Oil's Stern Warning on Climate Change from 1991

Shell Oil Company made Climate of Concern in 1991 as a warning against the dangers of climate change; then they ignored it.

Yet a video uncovered by De Correspondent and The Guardian has revealed that the company was acutely aware of the dangers of global warming as early in 1991 when it produced a short documentary warning against the threat of global warming.
