Our Youth Speak Up

About This Collection

Let's hear from our children, and their advocates, on the social, environmental, cultural, and economic concerns around sustainability and the call to always act responsibly and with the next seven generations in mind. The collection will also feature, from time to time, adults who are speaking on behalf of children.

To add to this collection email children@earthsayers.com.  Thank you.

Renee Zhao grew up in metro Vancouver, where limited opportunities in environmental spaces made it difficult for her to engage in climate action. Feeling excluded from climate discussions, she believed solutions must be inclusive and relevant to people's lives.

As director of climate education for the Canadian Youth Climate Action Team (CYCAT) from 2024 to 2025, Zhao developed accessible curricula connecting environmental issues to everyday concerns. Her programs have reached over 300,000 youth globally. In 2025, she organized the first BC Students’ Climate Policy Meeting, advocating for environmental education and equitable policies, which led to her participation in the UN High-Level Political Forum in July 2026.
