Our Youth Speak Up

About This Collection

Let's hear from our children, and their advocates, on the social, environmental, cultural, and economic concerns around sustainability and the call to always act responsibly and with the next seven generations in mind. The collection will also feature, from time to time, adults who are speaking on behalf of children.

To add to this collection email children@earthsayers.com.  Thank you.

Kaitlyn Culbert's interest in honeybees began in eighth grade when she researched essential oils to deter varroa mites, a major threat to bees. Since then, she has dedicated herself to addressing pollinator threats and inspiring action, leading Ocean County, New Jersey’s first 4-H beekeeping club and serving as New Jersey’s Honey Queen.

Her research, including a study published in Harvard’s Journal of Emerging Investigators, linked native plants to improved honeybee health. This led to her creation of a State-by-State Native Plant Compendium. In 2023, she collaborated with New Jersey legislators on the “Parks, Plants, and Pollinators” bill to ban non-native species in state parks, and during a 2025 internship, she introduced a bill to ban neonicotinoids on federal lands.
