North Dakota Governor Jack Dalrymple activated the National Guard ahead of a ruling on the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe's lawsuit against the $3.8 billion Dakota Access pipeline. U.S. District Judge James Boasberg is set to rule on an injunction challenging the Army Corps of Engineers' permits, arguing violations of the National Historic Preservation Act.

Over 1,000 people from more than 100 Native American tribes have gathered near the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation to resist the pipeline's construction, marking the largest tribal unification in decades. An update is provided by Tara Houska, national campaigns director for Honor the Earth.

Randy Woodley and Graham Hill discuss embracing ethnic diversity and learning from indigenous communities on The GlobalChurch Project. Woodley, a descendent of the United Keetoowah Band of Cherokee Indians, is a founding member of the North American Institute for Indigenous Theological Studies. Hill is the Founder and Director of The GlobalChurch Project.

Woodley and his wife Edith previously led a Native American gathering and developed a holistic service model, including a sustainable farm and Christian community. This initiative, which taught sustainability and eco-justice, was unfortunately disbanded due to violence. On July 27, 2012, we sadly announce the passing of Grandfather/Maestro Tlakaelel (Francisco Jimenez Sanchez), a revered Mexica-Tolteca Elder, teacher, guide, and guardian of oral traditions. More information is available from the SEED Institute.

Tlakaelel lived into his 90s, dedicating his life to learning, teaching, and honoring ancient traditions. He generously shared his profound knowledge with both Indigenous and non-indigenous communities.

We are profoundly grateful for his life and enduring legacy. He will be honored at the upcoming Wisdom from the Origins Conference, September 13-17, 2012, in Albuquerque, NM.
