Slam Dunkley, an Earth Guardians board member, recently delivered a law school graduation speech. He highlighted societal hypocrisy and the need for young leaders to maintain optimism for a radically different future.

Born in France, of Jamaican and Nanticoke Lenni-Lenape descent, Slam boasts a distinguished academic and legal career. A Division 1 Rower, he earned multiple degrees and, in law school, led student associations and wrote an award-winning paper on Indian Water rights. He will continue his legal education at UCLA.

This vision is a call to action. These young leaders advocate for cultural reclamation, sovereignty, and self-determination, building ethical and sustainable futures for their communities and beyond. Earth Guardians' Initiative proves diverse, intergenerational leadership drives meaningful change.

Amelia Southern-Uribe, 21, grew up in environmentally vulnerable Southern communities, recognizing early on that environmental justice is linked to the liberation of marginalized groups. In 2019, they founded Arkansas’s first Zero Hour chapter in Fayetteville, which became a model for climate activism across the state.

Addressing Arkansas’s educational disparities, which exacerbate injustice, Southern-Uribe co-founded Roots magazine in 2022. Roots amplifies BIPOC Southern voices and environmental knowledge, providing free art supplies to artists. In its pilot year, over $7,800 was raised to distribute the magazine statewide.
