They explored the critical need for reconciliation between Indigenous and Western scientific ways of knowing and being. This national-scale dialogue highlighted how such reconciliation is essential for addressing growing stewardship challenges, including climate change, biodiversity loss, and navigating post-COVID-19 impacts.

The "Women for Climate Justice Leading Protection of Water" event, a formal side event of the UN Water Conference in New York City, addressed climate change impacts on global water. Grassroots leaders, water protectors, and international policy experts shared solutions and strategies for protecting aquatic ecosystems within a climate justice framework.

Across 25 panels, including "Oceans, Freshwater, and Climate" on June 27th, participants presented diverse visions and strategies for a healthy, just world. The Assembly offered interpretation in English, Spanish, French, and Portuguese.

The Just Transition: Indigenous Peoples’ Perspectives, Knowledge and Lived Experiences Summit convened in Geneva, Switzerland, from October 8-10. Indigenous activists from around the world attended, and Cultural Survival conducted interviews with several delegates.

These interviews were produced by Guadalupe Pastrana (Nahua), Marco Lara (Hñähñu descent), and Shaldon Ferris (Khoi/San). Interviewees included Adamou Amadou (Mbororo), Amina Amharech (Amazight), and Beaska Nillas (Sami).

Miriam Turner, Interface's Assistant VP of Co-Innovation, identified a unique opportunity. With 660 million people globally relying on oceans for livelihoods, many in poverty, she was inspired by Aquafil's recycling efforts to create an inclusive business model.

Her vision involved purchasing discarded fishing nets directly from local fishermen, providing them with vital extra income. This initiative would simultaneously clean beaches and oceans, benefiting both communities and the environment.
