Dolores Huerta, 93, is a living legend and influential U.S. labor and Chicano civil rights leader. Her seven decades of activism include co-founding the United Farm Workers with César Chávez, leading strikes and boycotts, and advocating for agricultural workers' rights, including safer conditions and benefits. Today, she shares insights on union organizing across all economic sectors and fostering unity among labor, social, racial, gender, and climate justice movements for a fairer society.

On March 13, WECAN and the Indigenous Women's Treaty Alliance petitioned the Army Corps of Engineers in Washington D.C. They demanded a robust environmental review of the proposed Line 5 crude oil pipeline reroute.

Enbridge's Line 5 operates illegally, threatening sacred ecosystems, clean water, treaty territories, and the global climate. Despite opposition, Enbridge plans a reroute and expansion. Activists insist Line 5 must be shut down and decommissioned, not merely rerouted.

The Indigenous Women's Treaty Alliance, supported by WECAN, Sierra Club, and community allies, delivered the petition. WECAN has facilitated the Alliance, comprising Great Lakes Indigenous women leaders, since 2022.

Everyone wants to be healthy, but globally chronic diseases like cancers, diabetes, obesity, allergies, mental disorders, and infertility are on the rise. And while healthy eating certainly can play a role in disease prevention, most people are unaware that plastic food packaging, processing equipment, kitchen utensils, and tableware leach hazardous chemicals into foodstuffs, contributing to chronic disease. In this TEDx talk, Jane Muncke explains the principle of chemical migration from plastic food contact materials and discusses the gaps in regulation that lead to harmful exposures to hazardous chemicals from everyday food packaging. A healthier option is the use of inert materials, such as glass and stainless steel. Dr. Jane Muncke is the Managing Director and Chief Scientific Officer of the Food Packaging Forum (FPF), a charitable foundation based in Zurich, Switzerland. She co-founded FPF in 2012 to share high-quality scientific information about health and environmental impacts of food packaging. In 2025, FPF has grown to a team of 9 scientists who, with diverse external partners and collaborators, have developed several publicly available evidence-based tools, for example the Understanding Packaging Scorecard and the Database on extractable and migrating food contact chemicals, FCCmigex. Jane is also part of the PlastChem project team, a member of the Scientists’ Coalition for an Effective Plastics Treaty, and a board member of the Global Footprint Network. Jane has a PhD in environmental toxicology and an MSc in environmental science, both from ETH Zurich, and is an experienced improvisational theatre actor. Enbridge's Line 5 pipeline, operating 20 years beyond its engineered lifespan, threatens 20% of the world's surface freshwater in the Great Lakes, along with sacred ecosystems, drinking water, and treaty territories. Indigenous women, tribal leaders, and allies are demanding its immediate shutdown and decommissioning.

Despite strong opposition, Enbridge proposes expanding and re-routing Line 5. This new route would devastate hundreds of waterways, including those vital to the Bad River Reservation, Lake Superior, and the Straits of Mackinac. It is imperative to stop this expansion and all fossil fuel projects now.
