Ivo Kennedy implores viewers to explore what role urban agriculture can play in society and in our every individual’s life. From large-scale hydroponic systems to grassroots community gardening, Ivo investigates the routes we can take that could reshape our legacy to be about a people that reinvented nature, reinvented agriculture, and learned to appreciate and nurture nature, even in cities. Amid a global environmental crisis, Ivo Kennedy reflects on his seemingly incompatible love for both the natural world and the vibrant character of city life. A graduate student studying public health, he considers how urban agriculture can turn gray skylines green and help us reach environmental sustainability in energy-demanding cityscapes. Speaker bio: Tracey Osborne is an Associate Professor, Vice Chair and Presidential Chair in the Management of Complex Systems Department at the University of California, Merced. Tracey's research focuses on the social & political economic dimensions of climate change mitigation in tropical forests & the role of Indigenous Peoples, the politics of climate finance and governance, and climate equity and justice. She's worked on these issues globally with extensive field experience in Mexico & the Amazon, is the founding Director of the new UC Center for Climate Justice & leads the Climate Alliance Mapping Project, a collaborative effort between academics, environmental non-governmental organizations, and Indigenous organizations working for a socially-just response to climate change through research, maps & digital stories. Her work has been published in high-impact geography, social science & interdisciplinary journals. She has been invited to share her research internationally in venues academic & non, such as Conference of the Parties climate change meetings. She received her PhD from the Energy and Resources Group at the University of California, Berkeley. High-quality apprenticeships, carefully planned internships, and volunteering programs can serve as valuable entry points into the job market for first-time jobseekers and recent graduates. Jean Mary Tjiohimba, who is from the Khwe community of South Africa talks to us about the successes and struggles of the Youth in her community. With over 40 percent of the world's population under the age of 25, there are currently about 1.2 billion young people in the world. Youth are a global asset, and investing in youth and safeguarding their interests is critical for both social and economic stability.
