This story highlights the critical importance of the Peruvian Sea's initial five miles. This specific maritime zone holds immense ecological and economic value for the nation.

The Chumash, a maritime culture for millennia, built strong *tomol* plank canoes to navigate the Channel Islands' treacherous waters. European colonization nearly eradicated this craft through forced assimilation. Today, Alan Salazar and his Chumash and Fernandeño Tataviam communities are revitalizing *tomol* building and paddling, passing vital knowledge to new generations.
Support the Tataviam Land Conservancy’s project to build two *tomols*. This initiative will unite the Fernandeño Tataviam and Chumash tribes through educational events and workshops focused on *tomol* craft, culture, and paddling. Please specify "Tomol Project" when donating at tataviam.land/donation/.

Lydia Jennings, a member of the Huichol (Wixaritari) and Pascua Yaqui (Yoeme) Nations, holds a doctorate in soil microbiology. Her work champions environmental science and the essential role of Indigenous communities, striving for more inclusive academic and environmental landscapes.
When her graduation was canceled due to the pandemic, Lydia celebrated by running 50 miles to honor Indigenous scientists and knowledge keepers—a tribute to the past, present, and future. This inspiring story is captured in a film by Devin Whetstone and Jordan Marie Daniel.
Special thanks to Rising Hearts for making this film possible. Music was composed by Stephanie Nicora & Bill Reynolds, featuring vocalist Eden Fine Day, and songs by Portugal. The Man and Raye Zaragoza.

"Run to Save a Watershed" is a documentary set in Chile's Central Andes, where the Maipo River sustains Santiago's 7.1 million residents and a vibrant ecosystem. However, the Alto Maipo hydroelectric project threatens this vital waterway.
Trail runner and activist Felipe Cancino runs 120 kilometers, tracing the project's pipelines, to expose its devastating impact. He reveals how it alters the river, displaces communities, endangers Santiago's water supply, and permanently damages the natural environment. The film underscores the true value of this ecosystem against the high costs of current development.
