Ahead of COP26, Ursula Woodburn, Head of EU Relations for CLG Europe, met with Maria Letizia Mariani, Chief Commercial Officer, and Steve Meadows, Director of Services & Operations, from Signify.

CLG Europe is a cross-sectoral EU business voice, convened by the University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL), advocating for a climate-neutral economy. It develops ambitious positions and engages with high-level policymakers, including EU climate ministers and MEPs, through its Green Growth Partnership. Representing diverse businesses across Europe, CLG Europe is also a founder of the We Mean Business Coalition.

Tennessee native Erica Davis recognized that rural communities often see little benefit from local oil and gas extraction. Collaborating with grassroots organizers in Campbell County, she researched and sponsored a bill to reform oil and natural gas severance taxes.

Davis's bill aims to raise these taxes, which are the sole legislative means to keep extraction wealth in-state. Crucially, it seeks to distribute all revenue directly to the affected communities where extraction occurs, rather than the current one-third. Despite Davis's lobbying efforts and bipartisan support, the bill was dropped from the 2015-2016 docket. Now pursuing an environmental law degree, Davis plans to revive the legislation in the next session.

Mina Bakhshi, Haniya Tavasoli, and Rabia Hussain enjoyed freedoms in Afghanistan, pursuing education and work. Joining Ascend, a nonprofit teaching leadership and rock climbing, allowed them to explore their country's mountains. When the Taliban seized power in August 2021, Ascend became their only chance to escape the restrictive regime.

As Ascend women resettled globally with host families, Yosemite Search and Rescue members Merryn Venugopal and Michelle Pellette invited them to Yosemite. There, they found safe reunion, solace in the climbing community, and a vital connection to home while building new lives.
