The legislation passed with an 88-5 vote. Following its approval, Faison distributed various hemp products, such as breakfast cereal, soap, cooking oil, and twine, to legislative leaders, showcasing the plant's diverse applications.

President Obama advocated raising taxes on incomes over $250,000 to reduce the deficit. Conversely, others argued the wealthiest 1% already pay over a quarter of federal taxes, and higher taxes on "job creators" would hinder economic growth. The central question remained: should tax breaks be extended for everyone, or are the wealthy not paying their "fair share"?

He was the lead author of the 2019 Columbia University assessment of the Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act, which confirmed the bill's environmental and economic effectiveness.

Dr. Kaufman is a Research Scholar at Columbia's Center on Global Energy Policy, where he leads research on climate change policies and teaches Energy Decarbonization. He previously served as Deputy Associate Director of Energy & Climate Change at the White House Council on Environmental Quality during the Obama administration.
