17-year old innovator Mira Bhattacharya doesn’t believe in the current cleanup solution for oil spills and spent three years searching for a better and more sustainable remedy. In this talk she explains how simple orange peels hold the answer. Mira Bhattacharya is a 17-year-old Toronto-based innovator, who is passionate about using upcoming and exponential technologies to impact billions. From a young age, she became interested in tackling both social justice and environmental issues. She has competed and presented her research on environmental sustainability on two occasions at the Canada Wide Science Fair, garnering her two silver medals, as well as the Youth Can Innovate award. In March of 2020, Mira Co-Founded “Disable the Difference”, a Non-Profit Organization with a mission to raise awareness, provide support, and advocate for policy change for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Farmers Brandon Mazur and Stephanie Moore met while attending Pacific University at the school garden and have been farming side by side ever since. They formed Good Natured Gardens, a small scale organic farm located on Sauvie Island about 15 minutes from Portland OR. In this video Brandon talks about the importance of small farms and what the next generation of farmers of farmers need in terms of community support.

Both Brandon and Stephanie are dedicated to the production of clean, fair and fresh vegetables and herbs. By cultivating the land in a positive way and helping others throughout the community to grow their own gardens, they hope to inspire creative, just and tasty ideas for the present and the future.

The fashion industry has observed a marked turn towards sustainability since the 2014 Rana Plaza incident in Bangladesh. Aditi Mayer, creator at Adimay.com and a labour rights activist addresses intersectional issues within the fashion industry pertaining to questions such as how does our fashion system today continue colonial practices and how can we reimagine a new system? Aditi Mayer is a sustainable fashion blogger, photojournalist, labor rights activist, and frequent speaker on topics of social and environmental justice. Her work looks at fashion and culture through a lens of intersectionality and decolonization. After having noticed the lack of fair wages and the ill-treatment of workers in the fashion industry, Aditi decided to help change things in the fashion industry. She has become a leading voice in the sustainability movement, approaching her work from multiple domains: from grassroots organizing in Downtown LA’s garment district to educating folks on the importance of diverse perspectives. Aditi also serves on the council of Intersectional Environmentalist, and will be spending 2021 as a National Geographic Digital Storytelling Fellow, spending one year documenting the social and environmental impacts of India’s fashion supply chain. Alice uses the metaphor of an apple tree to describe the various factors that make up a healthy, sustainable economy. Alice Maggio is an advocate for place-based currencies and local economies. From 2012-2017 she worked at the Schumacher Center for a New Economics, starting as an intern and then as the Director of Programs and Executive Director of BerkShares, the Berkshire region’s local currency. Her work has focused on educating people in her own community and around the world about the role that local financial tools and institutions play in the development of vibrant, just, and sustainable economies. Alice has been interviewed by Paul Solmon for the PBS NewsHour and by Henry Rollins for the History Channel. She represented BerkShares and the Schumacher Center at International Conferences on Complementary Currency Systems in and Barcelona, New York, and Nova Scotia. A graduate of Mt Everett RS in Sheffield, MA, Alice received her B.A. in Sociology and French from Wesleyan University in 2010. She is currently pursuing her Master's degree in Urban and Environmental Policy and Planning at Tufts. Their actions are contributing to social inequality and the wider ecological crisis. But young people today can play a vital role in shaping the policies that can limit the climate crisis while building a more fair society. Tabitha Spence is a geographer, teacher and organiser based in Lahore. Her work centres around the need for a transition of the global economy to one that sustainably meets 21st century needs for all people. She works with the Asia Europe People's Movement, and is involved with Haqooq e Khalq Movement, Progressive International and Democratic Socialists of America. Short for Cell-based Meat Facility, Project CMF is an ongoing design project by CAS, the Cellular Agriculture Society, conceptualizing what meat production may look like in New York by 2040, where animal cells are farmed instead of animals. Partner scientists of CAS, over a dozen of the leading cell-based meat scientists in the world, were consulted for Project CMF towards its goal in visualizing an ambitious, but realistic depiction of a meat production facility in 20 years.
