Hunter McIntosh, VP of the Alaskan-based The Boat Company, is a second-generation conservationist. After working on Capitol Hill, he joined the family business, now focusing on advancing ecotourism. The Boat Company, in business for 30 years, emphasizes collaboration and a unified political voice for the industry.

Hunter was videotaped by Barry Heidt of Sustainable TV, with editing support from Tom Hopkins of Sustainable Today. This occurred at The International Ecotourism Society's (TIES) 2010 ESTC event in Portland, Oregon, from September 8-10, 2010.

People of color are disproportionately impacted by environmental degradation yet remain underrepresented in environmental organizations and discussions. This month, we feature Andrés Jimenez, Executive Director of Green2.0, an organization dedicated to increasing diversity in environmental justice conversations.

Jimenez brings extensive experience, having previously served as Senior Director of Government Affairs for Citizens' Climate Lobby, Associate Director of Government Relations at Ocean Conservancy, and worked on Capitol Hill for Reps. Linda Sanchez and Howard Berman.

Renee Lertzman, Ph.D., is a researcher, writer, and consultant focusing on sustainability's psychological dimensions. She lectured at Portland State University on February 4, 2010, discussing "The Myth of Apathy or Why People Don't Seem to Care About Sustainability."

With two decades in the sustainability sector, Dr. Lertzman's innovative research and consulting are widely recognized. She holds an MA from UNC Chapel Hill and a Ph.D. from Cardiff University, where she developed psychosocial research for sustainability. Her work has appeared in the New York Times "Dot Earth," KBOO Radio, and The Ecologist. More information is available on her Website.

Mohammad Lari, a UBC honours physiology student, shares motivation from youth initiatives. He emphasizes determination, learning from failures, and local action with global thinking, illustrating the "butterfly effect" where small changes yield large impacts.

Three years ago, Lari co-founded STEM Fellowship, a non-profit now active across Canada with 300+ members. STEM Fellowship (stemfellowship.org) runs initiatives including Big Data Challenges for sustainability, a student research journal, and mentorship. He also advises CIHR, UNESCO, and others on youth engagement.
