While many desire a society accountable to people and the planet, corporate domination, particularly by giant tech companies, undermines democracy and concentrates wealth. This trend erodes our agency and community input.

Stacy Mitchell, a leader against excessive corporate power, reveals that these immense companies have met their match. A broad grassroots alliance and new government leaders are reviving anti-monopoly laws and strategies, offering hope for a more equitable and greener future.

U.S. wetlands are in crisis, with half of these vital ecosystems in the lower 48 states vanishing since the 1780s. A 2023 Supreme Court decision removed federal protections, leaving remaining wetlands vulnerable to draining and filling.

Wetlands are crucial for biodiversity; nearly 50% of threatened and endangered species rely on them, with over 33% living exclusively there. Their loss degrades water quality, increases flood risks, and accelerates extinction; many endangered wetland species lack critical habitat protection.

Urge the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to protect more critical habitat for wetland-dependent species. Learn more and act at www.saveourfreshwater.org.

A remotely operated submersible recently captured a rare video of a living juvenile colossal squid near the Atlantic Ocean's South Sandwich Islands. This foot-long creature, with a transparent body and glowing eyes, offers a glimpse of a species whose adults, never filmed alive, can reach 23 feet and weigh over 1,000 pounds, typically inhabiting Antarctic waters over 3,200 feet deep.

The Center for Biological Diversity, a Tucson-based 501c3 nonprofit, believes human welfare is deeply tied to nature's diversity. We work to protect all species from extinction through science, law, and creative media, focusing on safeguarding essential lands, waters, and climate. Our goal is a future where the wild thrives.

In 2021, Coca-Cola ceased selling refillable glass bottles in Samoa, opting for single-use plastic bottles instead. This shift poses a significant environmental challenge, as Samoa lacks adequate recycling facilities, leading to increased pollution in the ocean.

Recently, members of the Samoan and Pacific Islander communities gathered in London to urge Coca-Cola's largest bottler to protect the ocean and reinstate reusable packaging. They emphasize that Coca-Cola has the solutions needed to address this issue. Join the call for change by signing the petition at oceana.ly/Coca-Cola.

Kristine McDivitt Tompkins, former Patagonia CEO, is a prominent American conservationist. With her late husband, Douglas Tompkins, she is recognized as one of history's most successful national park philanthropists. Her NGO, Tompkins Conservation, recently partnered with Chilean President Michelle Bachelet to create five new national parks and expand three others in Chile, adding over 10 million acres of protected land.

In her talk, Tompkins will share insights into her conservation work in the Southern Cone, her transition from businesswoman, and her call to action: "Paying our rent to Earth." The discussion will be moderated by Kate Brandt.
