Candice Myers, a self-described "waste tragic," unexpectedly entered the waste industry in 2015. Despite a background in hospitality and accounting, the complexities of waste issues captivated her, transforming into a deep passion. This led her to pursue a Bachelor of Sustainability at 38 and a Masters of Environmental Sciences, all while raising three children.

Myers is dedicated to educating others and finding solutions to overconsumption and excess waste. She actively volunteers at litter pickups and builds worm farms, advocating for a shift in perspective: from waste as something to dispose of, to a valuable resource. We really believe we can look at nature for solutions, instead of synthetic materials like plastic, says Pierre Paslier, Co-Founder and Co-CEO of Notpla, a prestigious start-up that was one of last year's Earth Shot prize winners.

Notpla's innovative packaging solutions use seaweed and plants as alternatives to single-use plastics, with their expanding portfolio including :

- Edible bubbles for beverages and condiments
- Biodegradable take-away food containers
- Films and sachets for dry goods

At the end of its life, the packaging can be turned back into compost that in turns feeds new seaweed and plants.

Naeen Jackson, a former farmer and Food Safety and Environmental Consultant at Jamaica's Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, leads the Essex Valley Agriculture Development Project. This initiative, funded by the UK and administered by the Caribbean Development Bank, represents Jamaica's largest single investment (£35.5M) in irrigation infrastructure.

The project aims to enhance productivity for over 700 farmers across 700 hectares by providing irrigation and improving market access. It emphasizes a socially inclusive, gender-equitable, and climate-sensitive approach. As an agricultural entrepreneur, Naeen is also a strong advocate for youth and women in agriculture.
