Kashmala Kakakhel, an expert in international climate finance policy, discusses how climate change will determine tomorrow's winners and losers. With over 14 years of experience, she ensures climate funding meets developing countries' needs and designs projects for international funds.

Since 2016, Kashmala has advised Pakistan's representative to the Green Climate Fund (GCF) Board. In 2020, as Lead Co-Chair Advisor for over 130 developing nations, she facilitated the approval of 37 projects totaling US$2.1 billion and led the GCF's Strategic Plan update. Her prior leadership at CDKN also significantly advanced climate finance access and contributed to the UN Warsaw International Mechanism on Loss and Damage. She is also an author and TEDx speaker. On November 12, 2020, the Reconciling Ways of Knowing Forum, with the Victoria Forum, hosted "Millennia of Experience: Drawing on Indigenous Knowledge in Responding to COVID-19." This dialogue explored how Indigenous knowledge and science can improve public health outcomes. First Nations communities notably experienced significantly lower COVID-19 infection (1/4) and mortality (1/5) rates.

Speakers discussed how Indigenous Peoples leveraged millennia of experience from past pandemics, using sovereignty and traditional medicines to protect communities and foster resilience. The session highlighted how Indigenous approaches mitigated negative health outcomes despite systemic challenges and marginalization, offering lessons for collaboration.
