"Active Hope," by Joanna Macy and Chris Johnstone, challenges feel-good denial, cynical disengagement, and baseless optimism. Macy emphasizes that there are no comforting certainties or guarantees for safeguarding civilization or conscious life. We may be attending a dying world or birthing a new evolution, but the book stresses the imperative to act on issues we care about.

Inspired by "Active Hope," Cynthia Papermaster and Harvey Wasserman organized an evening of multi-issue presentations on January 10, 2016, at the Berkeley Fellowship of Unitarian Universalists.
