Unsustainable, extractive farming practices have led to environmental and public health crises, depleting nature and driving climate change and biodiversity loss. With agriculture using half our land, farmers are crucial stewards. We must shift from extractive systems to regenerative, sustainable, and circular approaches.

In this talk, The Prince of Wales supports an international framework for measuring farm sustainability. A long-time advocate for sustainability, he has championed British farming and a more sustainable food future, raising awareness for critical issues.

Organized by the Women’s Earth and Climate Network (WECAN), the Global Women’s Assembly for Climate Justice: Path to COP30 and Beyond brought together over 125 grassroots and frontline women leaders in all their diversity, global advocates, thought leaders, and policymakers representing 50 countries from around the world. During 25 unique panels, speakers showcased a diverse array of visions, projects, policy frameworks, campaigns, and movement strategies with which we can accelerate a bold and transformative path to a healthy and just world.

These actions targeted destructive policies, climate-killing fossil fuels, widespread chemical approvals, and the despoilment of vital ecosystems like the Everglades. We also fought corruption threatening wilderness areas and defended national parks from exploitation.

A new Oceana report reveals that the illegal seafood trade, partly fueled by U.S. demand, devastates fishing communities worldwide. Oceana advocates for expanded traceability and transparency requirements for all seafood imports.

Despite being the world's largest seafood importer, the U.S. Seafood Import Monitoring Program (SIMP) covers only 13 species, leaving 60% of imports vulnerable to illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing. This loophole allowed an estimated $2.4 billion in IUU seafood into the U.S. market in 2019, causing global economic and ecological damage.

Oceana urges President Biden to expand SIMP to include all imported seafood and implement comprehensive "net to plate" traceability to protect ocean health and livelihoods.
