The World Bank Group’s Film4Climate campaign participated in the 2018 Cannes Film Festival to highlight how creative industries can drive government and public action towards a low-carbon, resilient world. Collaborating with Marche du Film’s Doc Corner, Connect4Climate hosted a screening of Slater Jewell-Kemker's *Youth Unstoppable*, a Climate Focus workshop, and partnered for Doc Day.

Recognizing film's power to influence younger generations through emotional storytelling, Film4Climate aims to build a global network of film industry partners. These partners are committed to climate action, environmental protection, and social equity, believing the medium can effectively shape behavior.

Suma Peesapati, board president of Communities for a Better Environment, argues that California's acclaimed climate policies often fail to improve conditions for low-income communities of color, which bear the brunt of pollution. She specifically criticizes the state's flawed cap-and-trade program.

This summary captures Ms. Peesapati's remarks from an April 2018 roundtable hosted by the Carnegie Council's journal, "Ethics & International Affairs," at the International Studies Association's Annual Convention. César Chavez Day celebrates an extraordinary civil rights and environmental justice leader. Chávez (1927-1993) pioneered efforts to protect farmworkers, notably through a 1988 hunger strike that exposed the devastating impacts of pesticides on human health and the environment.

Despite progress, this fight continues. Pesticides still poison an estimated 20,000 U.S. farmworkers annually, disproportionately affecting Latino and other minority, low-income communities. The Center for Biological Diversity continues this critical work. Learn more by reading our report on glyphosate use in California: http://ow.ly/10642v

Noticing a gap between student environmental concern and action at Wesleyan, Kate Weiner founded LOAM in 2014. Inspired by an internship, her student-run environmental arts collective uses a literary magazine and gardening program to engage students in sustainability.

LOAM's free campus magazine features student environmental art and writing. Its "Wild Walls" program involves students building and maintaining low-cost wall gardens. The collective has successfully produced multiple issues and installations, receiving widespread positive feedback.

Post-graduation, Weiner continues LOAM's mission, fostering off-campus sustainability exploration. She and her peers also hosted a national youth essay contest and launched a new online platform.

As a high school student in drought-stricken Reno, Nevada, Celeste Tinajero initiated significant environmental changes at Reed High School.

In 2011, she secured a $12,000 grant from GREENevada to replace leaky bathroom fixtures with water-saving technology. Following this success, she spearheaded efforts to install a hydration station, raising funds through reusable water bottle sales to cover asbestos removal.

Tinajero graduated in 2013, leaving a lasting impact. Today, she continues her advocacy by designing sustainable living curricula for local schools and researching for Reno's "Bag the Ban" campaign against plastic bags.

Childhood friends Erika and Kayla actively championed river health in their hometown. Through the Youth Tribal Council and a Salmon Run Relay, they raised awareness about the declining Klamath and Trinity rivers. Excessive water diversion for agriculture, requiring dams and heavy irrigation, had severely depleted water tables and fish populations like salmon, sturgeon, and trout.

The Salmon Run Relay, mimicking salmon migration, also educated the community on native diet and culture, featuring a ceremony based on Yurok, Hupa, and Karuk traditions. Erika and Kayla further organized town hall meetings and distributed pamphlets, aiming to unite cultures, promote health, and encourage political engagement for river conservation.
