Jessica Elliott, a senior at Davenport Central, addresses the critical issue of ocean plastic pollution. Her talk presents compelling statistics and practical lifestyle changes to reduce individual impact on marine environments.

Deeply passionate about the ocean since her first visit, Jessica plans to pursue a degree in marine biology. She also mentors the youth philanthropy group Teens for Tomorrow, demonstrating her commitment to community and environmental stewardship.

Mishka, a 17-year-old from Utah, co-founded Utah Youth Environmental Solutions and helped craft the Utah Climate Resolution—the first of its kind in a traditionally conservative state. She also organized the 2016 Utah People’s Climate March.

Her work focuses on empowering youth to hold statewide organizations accountable for climate change and building Utah's youth climate movement. As a Pakistani Muslim American, Mishka also strives to build bridges and empower Muslim youth and students of color in the state.

Doorae Shin fell in love with Hawai‘i's majestic landscapes as a freshman on O‘ahu, but was dismayed by Styrofoam litter and its devastating impact on marine ecosystems. In fall 2012, she partnered with the Surfrider Foundation to lead a student petition, gathering 1,000 signatures. This effort successfully prompted the University of Hawai‘i Mānoa to ban single-use foam packaging from all campus dining locations.

Following this campus victory, Shin spent two years advocating for a statewide Styrofoam ban. When that initiative failed, she joined efforts for a county-wide ban on O‘ahu. Shin will soon begin her role as the University of Hawai‘i system's first student sustainability coordinator.
