The Women’s Earth and Climate Network (WECAN) hosted the Global Women’s Assembly for Climate Justice: Path to COP30 and Beyond from June 23-28, 2025. This virtual forum united over 125 grassroots and frontline women leaders, advocates, and policymakers from 50 countries, offering 25 panels with diverse strategies for a healthy, just world. The event featured insights from David W. Bond (Director of Behavioral Health, Blue Shield of California—Promise Health Plan), youth environmental activist Kat Lee (APEN), and student representative Maya Gomez (Mind Out Loud, Whitney High School). Additional speakers included Antoinette Mayer (Senior Director, Corporate Citizenship, Blue Shield), Joel Castro (President, Cesar Chavez Service Club), and co-host Michelle Meow (Producer and Host, "The Michelle Meow Show").

Since Trump's second inauguration on January 20, we have filed 65 lawsuits. These actions targeted destructive policies, climate-killing fossil fuels, widespread chemical approvals, and the despoilment of vital ecosystems like the Everglades. We also fought corruption threatening wilderness areas and defended national parks from exploitation.

We are deeply grateful for your continued faith and anticipate more hard-fought battles and victories in 2026.

This prestigious award, bestowed annually since 1960 by Promoting Enduring Peace, recognizes outstanding contributions to world peace.

Past recipients include luminaries such as Eleanor Roosevelt, Dorothy Day, Caesar Chavez, Bill McKibben, and Medea Benjamin.

Despite progress, this fight continues. Pesticides still poison an estimated 20,000 U.S. farmworkers annually, disproportionately affecting Latino and other minority, low-income communities. This initiative follows a White House-recognized Social Responsibility Program, which McDonald's, Subway, Burger King, and Taco Bell have already joined. These companies pay an extra penny per pound of tomatoes to raise wages and commit to sourcing from farms that respect workers' rights.
