Artisanal fishery is a cultural and economic activity for coastal communities in Abandze, east of Cape Coast, Ghana. But standard of living is fast depreciating as fishing revenues have declined over the past years due to sea pollution, climate change and heavy competition for sea resources. Based at the University of Cape Coast, Ghana, the Africa Center of Excellence on Coastal Resilience (ACECoR) is training the next generation of scientists and researchers to educate communities, impact policies, and help countries manage their coastal and marine resources to spur economic growth and reduce poverty while adapting to climate change. Corrina Gould, Tribal Chair for the Confederated Villages of Lisjan Nation and a leading Indigenous activist, will discuss "Rematriation" at this year's conference. This practice involves reclaiming traditional land and sacred sites to rebuild cultures, heal colonial wounds, and prioritize women's unique role in this vital undertaking.

Gould co-founded Indian People Organizing for Change and the Sogorea Te’ Land Trust, an urban Indigenous women-led organization based in her ancestral territory (Oakland, CA). Through rematriation, cultural revitalization, and land restoration, the Land Trust calls on all people to heal and transform legacies of colonization.

First, Jeff travels to Big Sur, California, to the Ventana Wildlife Society, where he helps prepare young condors for the wild. Later, he works with the Massachusetts Department of Fish and Wildlife to conserve unique saltmarsh sparrows in his home state.

Teaming up with Defenders of Wildlife, Corwin highlights these critical conservation efforts and invites you to join the adventure.

Erin Matariki Carr, a Maori lawyer and member of RIVER, is a leader in Aotearoa New Zealand's movement for constitutional transformation, honoring Te Tiriti o Waitangi 1840. This movement challenges human superiority over land. A key initiative is the legal personhood granted to Te Urewera rainforest, ancestral homelands of Ngāi Tūhoe. This innovative approach removes human ownership, establishing a new kawa (law) focused on management for the land's benefit.

Carr previously helped implement policies for Te Urewera's legal personhood. As a project lead at RIVER, she continues to advance constitutional transformation, collaborating with groups like Tūmanako Consultants and Te Kuaka NZA.
