Ukraine: Rebuilding livelihoods in Sumska oblast through beekeeping and aquaculture

In Ukraine, life continues despite the challenges of war. With financial support from the Ukraine Community Recovery Fund (UCRF), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) implemented a programme in Sumska oblast supporting aquaculture, beekeeping and the dairy sector. By combining training with direct financial assistance, the programme helps rural families adapt, sustain production and strengthen their livelihoods. Among the farmers supported by the programme is Valentyna, a beekeeper who has been connected to her work since childhood and cares for her bee colonies every day with deep dedication. Viacheslav, another supported farmer, has been engaged in aquaculture since 2003 and describes his ponds as a life’s work he cannot imagine leaving behind.
