For the first time, olive seeds have been deposited in the Svalbard Global Seed Vault, marking a significant international safety backup effort. This achievement resulted from a collaborative initiative involving the FAO’s International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture, the International Olive Council, and the Universities of Córdoba and Granada, supported by the Spanish Plant Genetic Resources Centre and NordGen.

The International Treaty enables countries to conserve, share, and utilize crop diversity. Learn more about the Plant Treaty: https://www.fao.org/plant-treaty/en/. For additional information, visit FAO: http://www.fao.org.
