AGROFORESTRY. Innovation in Action.
March 02, 2026

FAO, supported by Italy and the Government of Mozambique, is empowering farmers in Manica Province to combat climate change, soil degradation, and low productivity. Through the PRODAI project, communities establish multi-strata agroforestry systems, combining native timber, fruit trees, and biomass crops to restore soils, reduce erosion, and diversify livelihoods.

Fifteen community nurseries have already produced over 250,000 seedlings, engaging more than 3,000 farmers. By capturing carbon and connecting producers to voluntary carbon markets like Acorn and Plan Vivo, agroforestry creates new income opportunities and strengthens resilience. The goal is to restore 3,000 hectares with 1 million seedlings, planting a sustainable future. Learn more at [FAO](http://www.fao.org).
