Effective emergency preparedness and response for Rift Valley fever (RVF) — A One Health perspecti
March 11, 2026

Rift Valley fever (RVF), a mosquito-borne zoonotic disease, severely impacts livestock, human health, food security, and livelihoods. Recent outbreaks in Senegal, Mauritania, and The Gambia necessitate strengthened preparedness and a coordinated One Health approach across North and West Africa.

The FAO, through EMPRES-AH, supports countries in early warning and rapid response. A two-part webinar series for animal health stakeholders will share outbreak lessons, discuss One Health strategies, explore risk mitigation, and outline available FAO support.
