Blue Transformation: Seaweed Farming Opportunities in Latin America
December 23, 2025
Seaweed farming is emerging as a key opportunity within the Blue Transformation in Latin America and the Caribbean. Over the past decade, the sector has expanded steadily, with Chile, Venezuela, and Brazil playing a leading role in its development. Beyond its contribution to sustainable food systems, seaweed farming supports coastal livelihoods, strengthens local economies, and delivers environmental benefits such as ecosystem restoration and carbon capture. This video highlights FAO’s perspective on seaweed farming as a pathway toward inclusive, low-carbon, and sustainable development in the region. 🎙️ José Aguilar Manjarrez Aquaculture Officer – FAO RLC 📷 Image credits: Chile: © Samuel Niklitschek, Huiro Regenerativo Venezuela: © Vicente Covarrubias, Hatch Blue Brazil: © Miguel Sepúlveda, Seaweed Consulting Subscribe! http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=FAOoftheUN Follow FAO on social media! * Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/UNFAO * Instagram - https://instagram.com/fao * LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/company/fao * TikTok - https://www.tiktok.com/@fao * Twitter - http://www.twitter.com/fao/ * Weibo - https://www.weibo.com/unfao © FAO: http://www.fao.org #SDGs #Agenda2030 #GlobalGoals
