Communities at the heart of anticipatory action
December 18, 2025
https://www.fao.org/in-action/kore/ Engaging communities is at the heart of FAO’s emergency and resilience work. In the field of anticipatory action—where the window between a warning and a potential hazard is often very short—community participation is critical to ensure that interventions are tailored, timely, inclusive and effective. This animated film explores how early engagement with local communities in anticipatory action can save lives and protect livelihoods. When humanitarian aid is combined with local knowledge, communities are empowered to lead — finding solutions that are culturally appropriate, cost-effective, and sustainable. The animation emphasizes that meaningful engagement with at-risk communities at every stage of anticipatory action programming, coupled with recognition of their voices, knowledge, and leadership, is key to building inclusive, locally-led disaster preparedness. This film aims to inspire humanitarian actors and partners to adopt people-centered approaches that empower communities to anticipate, prepare, and act before disasters strike.
