In Dakar, Senegal, fisheries inspectors take part in practical vessel inspection training, boarding fishing vessels to review documentation, inspect fishing gear and verify catches. Supported by FAO, ICCAT and the GEF-funded Common Oceans Tuna Project, the exercise helps strengthen national capacity to detect illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing and prevent illegally caught fish from entering global seafood supply chains. Effective port inspections are one of the most important tools for combating illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing and promoting sustainable fisheries management. Through FAO's Port State Measures Agreement (PSMA), countries are improving monitoring, control and surveillance systems, strengthening cooperation among authorities and building the expertise needed to protect marine biodiversity and ensure sustainable tuna fisheries. Learn how hands-on training and international cooperation are helping close ports to illicit fishing worldwide. https://www.fao.org/in-action/commonoceans/en https://www.fao.org/gef/en https://www.fao.org/port-state-measures/en/ Subscribe! http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=FAOoftheUN Follow FAO on social media! * Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/UNFAO * Instagram - https://instagram.com/fao * LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/company/fao * TikTok - https://www.tiktok.com/@fao * Twitter - http://www.twitter.com/fao/ * Weibo - https://www.weibo.com/unfao © FAO: http://www.fao.org #SDGs #Agenda2030 #GlobalGoals
