In 2025, buyers from two cooperatives—one in Kenya growing coffee and another in Colombia growing cacao—requested proof that their farms were deforestation-free. Most smallholders lacked this proof.

Using FAO's free, open-source Open Foris solutions, they mapped their farms, maintained their data, and gained unexpected insights about their members. Here is their story, in their words.
